Rayfield Stringer, Jr.,71, of Indianapolis, IN was called home by God on Saturday, December 5, 2020. He was born on July 10, 1949 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Rayfield Stringer, Sr. and Sallie Roberson (both from Calhoun, Louisiana). Rayfield graduated from Hammond High School and attended both Northwood Institute and Indiana University Northwest.
Rayfield was known for his infectious energy and vibrant personality. He was a die-hard basketball fan who loved the excitement and impact of coaching, but he also appreciated the peace and calm of early morning fishing. Always dressed to impress, you could count on Rayfield having a pristinely kept Cadillac just as sharp as he was. He was an United States Army veteran ('72-'74), and worked at NIPSCO for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Mack Stringer, and will be fondly missed and cherished in lasting memory by his sister, Mary J. Gray (Pinkey); children, Charles Stringer, Raphael Stringer, Sr., Ingrid Stringer-Bullard (Melvin), Rayfield Stringer III (Natalie), Quentin Stringer, and Shacie King (Benford II); 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and adoring friends.
The family is planning a memorial service in celebration of his life from 4 to 6 p.m. on December 19, 2020 at Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home located at 14 Kennedy Ave. Schererville, IN. In accordance with Indiana Guidelines, please wear a mask and social distance.
