Richard Lee Carnett "Dick"
age 80, of Hammond, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017. Dick is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years Patty (nee Dunning); his children: Gregory (Kay) Carnett, Cheryl (Dwayne) Porter, Richard (Sue) Carnett and Maria (Vince Soto) Carnett; grandchildren: Katie, Kelly, Garrett, Danielle, Misty (Jeff), Amanda (Brad) and Brett; great grandchildren: Andrew, Evan, Reece, Lachlan and Logan; siblings: Linda (late Jack) Hotuyec, Marty (Joe) Acosta, Michael (Linda) Evans, Joseph (Geri) Carnett and Skip (Patti) Carnett; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his sisters Carla, Cathy and Raynell; his parents Clyde (Annamae) Carnett and Helen Evans.
Dick was born in Harrisburg, Illinois on August 3, 1936. He was a carpenter and worked for local 599 for over 55 years, retiring from the school city of Hammond. Dick was also a 32 nd degree Mason from the Whiting Lodge 613. Dick raced a top fuel dragster, the Hustling Hoosier, from 1961 to 1982. During his retirement Dick liked to restore antique cars.
Friends may gather with Dick's family to celebrate his life and legacy on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Solan Pruzin Funeral Home & Crematory 14 Kennedy Ave Schererville, IN. Prayers and eulogies will be shared at 8:00 PM Thursday with Pastor Robert Blair officiating the service. In lieu of flowers donations in Dick's honor may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital or The Humane Society.
