Robert A. Petitt

Age 90, of Hammond, IN passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2025. Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Nora Petitt (nee Boyd); loving children, Deanna J. (Late, John) Munjas, Tammy L. (James) Barnett, Robert D. Petitt; Cherished grandchildren, Sarah (Sean) Harris, Evan Munjas, and Tyler Munjas ; Liam Nydam and Ryan Barnett ; precious great-grandchild, Tyson Harris; and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Nellie Petitt (nee Canterbury); brothers, Douglas (late, Agnes) Petitt, Donald (late, Georgia) Petitt; sisters, Violet  Sanders, Elizabeth Fannin and Frances Petitt; Brother in law, Charles Boyd.

Born in Morris Creek, West Virginia, Robert and Nora moved to Hammond, Indiana in 1959. Robert enlisted in the United States Army, serving our country with honor and distinction. His military service was a cornerstone of his character, instilling in him a sense of duty, discipline, and a deep respect for his fellow servicemen.

After his time in the Army, Robert worked at LTV Steel for an impressive 40 years, where he became a respected and hardworking member of the team. He was known for his commitment to excellence, unwavering reliability, and the quiet strength he brought to every project.

Outside of work and service, Robert was an avid sports fan, with a particular love for the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers. His enthusiasm for sports extended to his own love for bowling at Plaza Lanes. A true bowling enthusiast, he proudly rolled two perfect 300 games.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN.  A Funeral Service at 6:30 PM with Pastor John Harris officiating. Services conclude at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Calumet would be appreciated.
