Ronald "Claw" Powers

Age 74, of LaPorte, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018. Ron is survived by his children Jennifer (Chad) Howard and David Powers; grandchildren: Desmond Powers, Jeremy Howard, Garrett Powers, Collin Howard and Ian Howard; siblings: Robert (Sandy) Powers, Marilyn Riggs, Karen (Bob) Gierman, Kathy (Kent) Medsker, Thomas Powers and Michael (Kim) Powers; numerous, nieces, nephews and extended family. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Elbert and Genevieve Powers.

Ron proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for six years. He was stationed in France and Minot, N.D. A native of Griffith, Ron retired from U.S. Steel in 2003 after 33 years. Ron found his sobriety on May 25, 1981, and following his own recovery, helped many others on their road to recovery. He was very active in the Dunes Fellowship House Michigan City and President of the Fifth Street Club in Wheeler for several years. Ron loved to ride. He had a Harley Davidson sticker on nearly everything he owned and was President of the Freebirds MC. Ron never let being "short-handed" as he put it, get in his way. Above all Ron cherished his family and was a loving father and a proud, devoted grandfather.

Friends may gather to honor Ron and celebrate his life on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 2-8 p.m. at the Solan Pruzin Funeral Home & Crematory 14 Kennedy Ave Schererville, IN. Funeral services will be held on at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 11 a.m with Fr. Theodore Mens officiating. Ron will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Schererville, IN.
