Ronald “Ron” S. Czaja

Ron had many interests and enjoyed staying active.

age 86, of Highland, formerly of the Hessville area of Hammond, IN, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

He is survived by the love of his life, Diane, loving wife of 60 years; loving children, Mike (Diane) Czaja; Jerry (Shannon) Czaja and Tina (Doug) Salus; precious grandchildren, Mitchell (Sydney), Alysha, Aubrey, Logan, Nolan (Hailey), Ethan, Zachary and Joshua; sister, Lorraine (late, Joseph) Hagan; along with many caring nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wonderful circle of friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Czaja and Stella Czaja (nee Pacholik).

Ron proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. He was a member of the American Legion Post 369. Ron graduated from Hammond Technical High School in 1958 and went on to graduate from Purdue University Calumet. He worked as a computer systems analyst at both World Book Encyclopedia at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago and later at Mid-America Mailers in Hammond.

Ron had many interests and enjoyed staying active. He loved playing sports from at a young age through little league, high school baseball and cross country. He enjoyed playing softball leagues in Chicago at Grant Park, racquetball and golfing. His favorite was playing golf with his sons, son-in-law and grandsons. He and Diane loved traveling and taking cruises. Ron was proud to have visited all 50 states as well as many destinations overseas, including the Amazon. He especially treasured attending his grandchildren’s sporting, band events and various school activities. His most favorite pastime of all, was spending time with his children and grandchildren. A devoted Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox fan, Ron could often be found cheering on his favorite teams.

Above all, Ron was a great guy who loved his family.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 24, 2026 DIRECTLY at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave, Highland, IN with Rev. Gregory Bim-Merle officiating. Ron will lie in state at the church Monday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service. Services conclude at the church.
