Rose J. Emmett (nee Legienc)
Age 100, passed away at home, peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who lived a life defined by love, resilience, and service to others.
She is survived by her beloved children, John (Kathleen) Emmett, Nancy Emmett, Dean (Tami) Emmett, and Andrea (Mel Speisman) Slasuraitis; precious grandchildren, Cheryl (Charles) Elliot, Carla (Michael) Sierra, Kevin (Kimberly) Emmett, Ashley (Ross) Nusbaum, Allison Emmett, Abigail Emmett; great grandchildren, Michael Elliot, Charlotte Elliot, Cambria Sierra, Camilla Sierra, Carter Emmett, Chase Emmett, Nora Rose Nusbaum, Beatrice Nusbaum; dear sister, Theresa (late, Steve) Sulski.
Preceded in death by beloved husband, John E. Emmett, Sr.; parents, John and Sophie Legienc; and sisters, Victoria (Frank) Mastey and Helen (Walter) Liss.
In her early years, she worked in the steel mills, reflecting her strength and determination. She later served as a school librarian, a role that allowed her to stay close to her children during their formative years. She also brought joy to many working at a banquet hall and, even into her 80s, continued caring for others as a homemaker and companion.
Family was always her greatest priority. She raised four children and cherished her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren—with one more on the way. Her strong work ethic, gentle spirit, and steadfast dedication to family will live on in the generations she nurtured.
She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humility, and enduring love. Her memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew her.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN. A prayer service will be held at 4:15 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 1 W. Wilhelm St., Schererville with Rev. Martin Dobrzynski officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL.
