Ruben Solis

age 74, passed away surrounded by his wife and two sons on Monday, October 9, 2023. Ruben is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Diane; sons, Ruben (Melanie) Solis and Joseph (Jennifer) Solis; precious grandchildren: Joshua Solis, Jaslyn Solis, and Joey Solis, Jr., Enrique Guajardo, Felix Guajardo, Arianna Solis, and Gabriela Solis; siblings: Leticia Solis, Mario (Yolanda) Solis, Mary Alvarado, Javier Solis, and Juanita Montantes; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Cresencio and Maria Solis; and siblings: Jesse Solis, Alejandro Solis, and Cresencio Solis, Jr.

Ruben was a 1969 graduate of Washington High School in East Chicago, IN. He displayed unwavering courage and dedication when he proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Ruben's passion for coaching was evident as he spent years nurturing young talent with the Hammond Hermits Little League and the Bishop Noll bowling team. He believed in teaching not only skills but also values of teamwork and discipline.

What truly defined Ruben was his selflessness and he will be remembered as an amazing husband, father, and grandfather, whose generosity touched many lives.

A Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 13, DIRECTLY at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave, Highland, IN with Fr. Gregory Bim-Merle officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:00 AM until time of Mass.  Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crown Point, IN.
