Sandra Thon Rusnack (Sandy), aged 74, passed away peacefully
on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at home with Hospice, surrounded by
loving family members and beloved friends. Sandy was preceded
in death by her parents, Roy Thon and Joan Imes Thon Snyder,
and brother Ronald (Janet) Hartman. She is survived by her
loving husband of 52 years, Robert (Rob) Rusnack; sister Wendy
Thon (David); nieces Melissa (Ron) Graves, Heather (Troy)
Cable, Kirsten Brueggemann and nephew Zachary
Brueggemann; great nieces and nephews, Hanna, Adam, Lexy
and Emerson; family friends Donna and Ed Brown and Meghan
Mayer.
Sandy graduated from Hammond High School in 1968. She
received an accounting degree from St. Joseph College in
Whiting. She worked in accounting and management in numerous
companies in East Chicago and the larger Chicagoland area
where she traveled internationally. Later, she and Rob opened the
stained-glass store "Pane in the Glass" in Whiting. In her 60s,
Sandy received a degree in Medical Billing and Coding from
IUNW. She was very active in her church in various official
positions and also directed the Bells and Choir. She enjoyed
playing the piano, crocheting, gardening, playing cribbage, and
traveling to visit family in Alaska and North Carolina. Sandy
loved a good party and opened her home for family gatherings,
large and small. She had a most-generous heart and will be
greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Donations can be made in her name to Hospice of the Calumet Area, Immanuel
United Church of Christ, or Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be held at Immanuel United Church of
Christ in Highland on Saturday, September 21st, 2024 at
10:30am.
