Sara "Nonny" Nelson was 79 when called to her heavenly home on Monday, February 9th, 2015. Sara passed peacefully in the quiet comfort in her Highland, Indiana home surrounded by her loving family and devoted husband Donald of 59-1/2 years. Sara was born on March 12th 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, raised her family in Dolton, Illinois and enjoyed her retirement years in the community of Highland, Indiana.
Sara beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt is survived by her husband Donald, brother John Warja, son Robert (wife Barbara, daughters Jenni Langham (Scott) and Jacqui (Ross), son Brian (wife Kathi, daughters Melissa and Rebecca, son Ryan), daughter Donna (husband Gary, daughters Renee (husband Drake), Karly and Emilee, son Nathanael (wife Michaela), great grandchildren Draven, Michael, Gabriella, Josefina, Ezra and Ariah), son Jeff (daughter Dakota and sons Jacob and Caleb), sister-in-law Judy Nelson, and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Sara is preceded in death by mother Hazel, father Robert, father-in-law A.D., mother-in-law Pauline, brother Ted Warja (wife Sophie), sister Betty Pierce (husband Ken), sister Barbara Hanson (husband Chester), sister-in-law Betty Warja, and sister-in-law June Nelson.
Her cherished friendships grew throughout her lifetime from her community, career and church involvement. All who knew Sara understood what a special and loving person she was. Sara recognized that family and friends were precious gifts and now leaves all of us with her legacy of love.
Sara had a deep faith and was a dedicated servant for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Sara is now in heaven and she is reunited with those who have gone before her, and waits patiently to again see those she left behind.
On Saturday, February 14, 2015, friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 9009 Kennedy Avenue Highland, IN 46322. Visitation will be 9am – 12pm, and a celebration of life service will begin at noon. Immediately following the service, please join us for a luncheon in remembrance of our beloved Sara.
