Sharon Ann Piejko (nee Tomaszewski)

Sharon treasured her family. She was a devoted grandmother who was affectionately known as the 'Best Grandma.'

Age 74, of Calumet City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2026. A longtime resident of Calumet City, Sharon made her home there for 28 years after previously living in Chicago, Illinois.

Sharon is survived by her loving daughter, Jacqueline “Jackie” Piejko; cherished grandchildren, Natalie and Johnny Tomaszewski; mother of Natalie and Johnny; Annmarie Diaz; sister, Terry Lavezzi; niece, Kaitlyn Lavezzi.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter J. Piejko; parents, Norman A. Tomaszewski and Alice Tomaszewski (nee Gostomski); sons, John Tomaszewski and Jeff Piejko.

Sharon was a graduate of Our Lady of Madonna High School. She dedicated nearly 27 years to working in the insurance industry before retiring from Evolent Health. Sharon took great pride in her work and the relationships she built throughout her career.

Sharon was a warm and caring person who was blessed with many wonderful friendships throughout her life. She enjoyed going out to eat, attending concerts, and spending time with the people she loved. She especially enjoyed music, with favorites ranging from Tony Bennett and Bob Seger to her beloved country music. Sharon was also an animal lover who had a special place in her heart for her cats.

A devoted sports fan, Sharon proudly followed her favorite teams, especially the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Pittsburgh Steelers. She enjoyed cheering on her teams and sharing her passion for sports with family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Colorado with her sister, Terry.

Above all, Sharon treasured her family. She was a devoted grandmother who was affectionately known as the “Best Grandma.” Sharon was incredibly giving and worked hard to provide for her family. Her love, generosity, and unwavering support meant so much to those around her.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 7109 Calumet Ave., Hammond, IN 46324. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 31, 2026 DIRECTLY at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 768 Lincoln Ave., Calumet City Sharon will lie in state at the church Monday morning from 9:30 AM until time of service. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL.

Sharon will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love of music, sports, travel, good food, animals, and, most importantly, her family and friends will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
