Sharon “Sherry” K. Heiss (nee Knaver), age 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Leesburg, Virginia on April 15, 2026. Sherry was born August 20,1948 and grew up in the Hessville section of Hammond, IN. She always considered Northwest Indiana as her “home”, cherishing memories with family and friends and returning to the “region” whenever she had the chance.

Sherry was an almost too generous person with a huge heart, making sure everyone’s needs and wants were met before her own. She was a devout Catholic whose favorite prayers included the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Sherry prayed at Nocturnal Adoration at her parish before she became too ill to do so.

Preceded in death by her parents, William and Elizabeth Knaver, grandparents, and countless aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Sherry is survived by her husband, John, sons Brandon and Cameron, brother, Danny (Anna) Knaver, nephews Tony and Adam Knaver, brother-in-law Bob Heiss (late Arleen) , nephew Brian (Sarah) Heiss and niece Deirdre (Dan) Densen, Stepson, Steve Heiss, Stepdaughter, Susan Heiss, as well as many other friends and relatives. Her lovable little Malti-poo Maddie will miss her too.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 356 W. 700 N. Valparaiso, IN 46385 with Rev. Paul Quanz officiating. A Visitation will be held at the church Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until time of Mass. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Schererville, IN.
