Shirley M. Bernacky (nee Novis), age 80, of Dyer, Indiana, Born in Chicago, Illinois. Shirley devoted her life to faith, family, and the countless children she nurtured.

For over two decades, she ran a small daycare in her home, caring for 27 children who became like extended family. Being around those children was truly her greatest purpose in life. No matter the challenges around her, Shirley always saw the beauty in every situation—her unwavering positivity and kind spirit were a light to all who knew her.

A devoted wife to Carl A. Bernacky, a beloved mother to Donald (Laura) Bernacky and William (Angel) Bernacky, and a cherished grandmother to Madeline Bernacky, Shirley centered her life around the people she loved most. She was also a devoted sister to Judy (Lonnie) Sellers, sister-in-law to Alice and Stan Kalwinski, and a proud aunt to Gregory (Kelly) Kalwinski, Julie (Shawn) Hogan, and Cindy Crawford.

Shirley was deeply devout in her faith, incredibly kind, loving, grateful, determined, and honest. Bill often said, "The world could be on fire, and Mom would still see the beauty in the flames."

Her life was a testament to unwavering love and faith, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

A Funeral Service will be Celebrated at 1:00 on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Solan - Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kenndey Ave, Schererville, Indiana, with Rev. Charles Niblick officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 AM until time of service. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
