Socorro Villanueva Marcellana Keresztes

age 70, of Munster, was tragically taken from her loved ones on Sunday, January 30, 2022. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Angela Keresztes; countless cousins, nieces, and nephews in The Philippines, Canada, US, and Australia; her colleagues turned family at Franciscan; and many other friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother Luz Villanueva Marcellana and father Calixto Marcellana Sr, and siblings Romeo, Lilia, Cielo, Rafael, Calixto Jr, and Milagros.

Socorro was the last living matriarch of the Villanueva-Marcellana family and the youngest of seven siblings. She cared for her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children, even from a distance.

She worked for over 25 years at Franciscan Healthcare in Chicago Heights and Olympia Fields. A large part of her career was spent in the pediatrics department. Socorro loved children; her daughter Angela, conceived at 42, was her everything. Socorro frequently cared for her friend's children, known as Lola (grandma) to many in her God-given and chosen family. She looked forward to being a Lola to her own grandchildren in the future, working every day to remain healthy and live a long life for her daughter.

Socorro loved cooking, both Filipino and new recipes, taking care of her plants, sharing time and adventuring with her friends, traveling and enjoying simple moments with her daughter, and video chatting daily with her family all over the world.

Her community is devastated by the sudden, untimely loss of the most gentle, caring, and selfless person. Socorro will be dearly missed by all, but the imprint she left on our hearts will never be forgotten.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home , 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Prayer service Tuesday night at 4:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 DIRECTLY at St. Thomas More Church, 8501 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN, with Rev. Michael J. Yadron officiating.
