Stephen P. "Steve" Johnsen

December 6, 1952—April 3, 2024

At age 70, Stephen P. Johnsen of Evansville, Indiana, formerly of Hammond, Indiana, peacefully passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. He is survived by his loving mother, Lois M. (nee Holler) Johnsen; dear brothers and sisters: Paul (Jackie) Johnsen, Michael J. (Mary Beth) Johnsen, Mary E. Freeland, Mark F. Johnsen, Richard J. (Darlene) Johnsen, Nancy A. (Gregory) Cherechinsky, and Catherine M. (Patrick) Blanc. He is survived by his aunts and uncle: Margaret Johnsen, Katherine (nee Holler; late, Kenneth) Miller, and Richard (late, Dorothy) Holler.  Steve is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins; by his special friend Carole; and by his favorite neighbor ever, Bill.  He is preceded in death by his father, Richard C. Johnsen and by his brother and best friend for life, Raymond J. (late, Jill) Johnsen, by a still-born sibling, by all of his grandparents, and by numerous beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Steve was a tough guy with a tender heart.  He had a big smile and a hearty laugh.  And, when he spoke to you en Espanol, he was being playful.

I've lived my life, and I've enjoyed it.

We've laughed and, yes, we've cried.

We've often come together

And again gone our own ways.

Yet, we'll always love each other.

And that is the best part of all.

Hasta la vista, nuestro hermano y mi buen amigo!  Vaya con Dios!

Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 AM–11:00 AM on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Saint John Bosco Church, 7113 Columbia Avenue, Hammond, Indiana.  A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at St. John / St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Stephen's name.  Thank you.
