Steven P. Kuric
age 92, of Highland, passed away at Community Hospital February 14, 2018. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend. Steven is survived by his daughter Dr. Joan Kuric (Chicago, Highland), son Dr. Steve Kuric, (Dr.Judi Kuric, Louisville KY), and daughter Caroline (Bill, Jamul, CA), 4 grandchildren -Kyle Kuric (Dr. Taraneh Kuric, Louisville, KY) Dr. Katie Kuric,(Louisville, KY), Allison Hendrickson (San Francisco, CA), Ean Hendrickson (San Luis Obispo, CA), Sister in law Marge Kuric, (Highland, IN), Sister in law Millie Benacka (Highland, IN), 2 great grandchildren (Arshan and Arsalan Kuric), and dear nieces and nephews. Steven was preceded in death by his wife (Mary R. Kuric), his parents, (Kristina and Paul Kuric), brother (John Kuric), and sister (Helen Vahey).
A longtime resident of Highland, Steven was born and grew up in the Indiana Harbor. He was a graduate of Washington High school and the University of Michigan where he received his degree in accounting. At the age of 17 Steven entered the Navy and served proudly in WWll aboard the U.S.S. Monrovia APA3, and then later during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Marias.
Steven retired from NIPSCO after 32 years. At the same time, he sat on the board of zoning for the town of Highland, and on the parish finance council for Our Lady of Grace church. After retirement, he continued to work as an accountant for medical practices in Michigan City and Munster.
Steven liked to refinish woodwork and was always busy finding projects to refurbish. He enjoyed walking as opposed to driving, loved to read, fish in the area and Canada, and attended mass on a daily basis. He had a deep devotion to his religion and faith, which helped him get through his hardships later on in his life.
He was a wonderful father and will be forever missed. The family expresses their appreciation for the care and compassion of Dr. Abd Noghnogh.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, February 19, 2018 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM At the Solan Pruzin Funeral Home & Crematory 14 Kennedy Ave Schererville, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Church 3025 Highway Ave Highland, IN. Steven will lie in repose at the church from 9:30 AM until time of mass and will be laid to rest at St. John Cemetery Hammond, IN.
