Sylvia C. Dickelman (nee Gryzch)

Age 82, of St. John, IN passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, November 18, 2023. Sylvia is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Joseph; children: Jason (Ruth Abramovitz) Dickelman, Michelle Cain, John Dickelman, Joseph (Deanna Kolar) Dickelman; precious grandchildren: Evie Dickelman, Sabina Dickelman, Kai Dickelman, Kayla Dickelman, Brody Cain, Madi Cain, Alyssa Dickelman, Josie Dickelman, Kyler Eckert; and brother Ron (Kathy) Grzych. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Gryzch and sister, Marie Nawrocki.

Sylvia was a beacon of hope, love, and encouragement to her family and friends. She will be remembered as Grandma Mongoose to her grandkids, a cheerleader to her kids, a caring sister, a friend to all, and a loving wife to her husband, Joseph. Her life was spent getting to truly know people and the details of who they were.  She loved the beach, loved a good game of scrabble, rummy or Bingo, and enjoyed holidays the most surrounded by her family. Sylvia was well known for her exceptional skills in garage, rummage and goodwill sales shopping and marvelous finds of all things exotic.  She worked for many years at Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, IN as a medical transcriptionist and attended and graduated from East Chicago Roosevelt High School in 1959.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Avenue, Schererville, IN. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, on Monday, November 27, DIRECTLY AT St. John the Evangelist Church, 11301 W 93rd Ave, Saint John, Indiana. Sylvia will lie in state at the church from 9:30 AM until time of Mass. Services conclude at the church.
