Thomas John Summers, Sr.

Thomas John Summers Sr., age 80, passed away peacefully in Zionsville, IN on Thursday, October 9, 2025. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Madeline Rose (Udowski) Summers, and his parents, Louis (Luka) C. and Ann (Anka) C. Summers. He is survived by his children, Andrea (Ted) Winkler, Thomas (Jessie Miskar) Summers II, and Anthony (Jennifer) Summers, grandchildren, Lauren and Nicholas Winkler; Aren, Leo and Carolyn Summers; brother, Robert (Beau) Summers; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Tom graduated from Bishop Noll Institute in 1963 where he was a proud member of their basketball team. Tom proudly served in the U.S. Army 196th Light Infantry Brigade in Vietnam from October 1965 to July 1967 where he obtained the rank of SP4/E-4 (Corporal). He graduated from Indiana University with a Masters of Science and Education in August of 1976. Tom served almost 40 years teaching Government, U.S. History, and World History; coached Basketball/Football/Track and Cross Country at Highland High School.  He was an accomplished and well-respected coach, leader, friend, and mentor to countless students and fellow teachers. He was a well-known and respected member of the Highland community. His love and passion was his family and playing/coaching basketball. He was an avid reader, loved movies, and spending time with his family. He is warmly remembered for his ready smile, humor, compassionate heart, kindness, loyal friendship, and willingness to offer guidance and support to everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the Solan - Pruzin Funeral Home and Crematory, 14 Kennedy Avenue, Schereville, Indiana with cremation to follow. Friends may visit with family from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at the Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society and Boys and Girls Club of Boone County.
