V. Susan Gryfakis

Age 80, of Highland, formerly of Hessville, IN, was called by her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

Susan is survived by her loving daughter, Janice M. Gryfakis; beloved nephews, James (Jennifer) Mecha and Richard Reynolds; and dear and special friend, Patti Carpenter. Preceded by her Parents, Herbert and Mary Rose Reynolds; husband Eftyhios “Ef” Gryfakis; brother, Richard Reynolds; niece, Laura Mecha; nephews, Robert and William Reynolds.

Susan was a proud graduate of Morton High School, class of 1963, and will be remembered for her deep faith, vibrant spirit, and love of life. She devoted 40 years as a music director, sharing her passion and talent with her community; and was an active member of the Serra Club of Northwest Indiana and the Women’s Guild of St. James Church. Susan also faithfully served as an alter server and Eucharistic minister. An avid bowler for over 20 years, she found joy both in friendly competition and fellowship. She had a true love for travel, vacationing in 25 states including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as internationally in Canada, Mexico, and 10 countries throughout Europe. Among her most cherished adventures were a river cruise along the Danube beginning in Hungary and many ocean cruises to islands around the world, including a memorable journey through the Panama Canal. Susan will be fondly remembered for her warmth, devotion, and the many lives she touched.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026 from 4:00 – 8:00pm at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave, SCHERERVILLE, IN. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 23, 2026, DIRECTLY at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave, Highland, IN 46322, with Fr. Gregory Bim-Merle officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:00 AM until time of Mass. Services will conclude at the church and entrusted to Solan Pruzin Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis Tennessee would be appreciated.
