YOLANDA P. HERNANDEZ

age 86, of Lansing, passed peacefully in her sleep Monday, December 12, 2016, the special feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe Yolanda is survived by her children: Jesse (Sonia Orozco) Hernandez, Nayla Hernandez, Sara (Sean) Fitzpatrick and Minerva (William) Wieczorek; grandchildren: Jesse (Rachel), Joseph and Edward Hernandez, Samantha and Stephanie Fitzpatrick, Shannon (Jeff) Pancer, Erica and Joshua Wieczorek; great grandchildren: Sophia, Julian, Mason, Bradley and Vincent; siblings: Gloria Pavon, Minerva (Arturo) Quiroz, Margarita (late Alfonso) Villareal, Guadalupe (fiancé Salvador Molina) Pavon; sisters-in-law Guadalupe Pavon and Yolanda Pavon; brothers-in-law Joel (late Dolores), Luis (Magda Chavez) and Eduardo (Renee) Hernandez; many nieces, nephews and godchildren; caregiver for the past 2 ½ years Eva Higuera. Preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Armando; siblings: Joaquin, Roberto, Carlos, Sofia, Roman (Blanca) and Eloisa; parents Roberto and Guadalupe Pavon.

Yolanda was a woman of faith, a gentle soul with a kind heart and beautiful singing voice. She loved traveling with her husband, exploring the U.S. and visiting Spain, Puerto Rico and Mexico; Yolanda loved canaries and at one time had over 50 of them. She was an avid Loteria player, especially with her dear friend Margarita Rodriguez, and enjoyed watching the Cubs with Armando. The ultimate homemaker, Yolanda was an amazing cook, who loved to feed her family. She spent countless hours knitting blankets and scarves for everyone. Although we will miss her dearly we know that she and Armando are now dancing in heaven.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 2:00-8:00 PM at the Solan Pruzin Funeral Home & Crematory 14 Kennedy Ave Schererville, IN.  Prayers will be said Saturday morning at 9:00 AM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann Catholic Church 3010 Ridge Rd Lansing, IL with Rev. William McFarlane officiating. Burial will be private.
